What the tusk?

Narwhals have no teeth in their mouth, instead the males develop a long straight tooth, called a tusk, that protrudes 6 to 10 feet out of his upper left jaw. The tusk is a sexual trait and is not critical for survival. Males use the tusk to determine social rank and to compete for females. Click here to learn more.
