A study at the University of St Andrews, reveals that man made noise underwater is picked up by whales in a similar way as how they detected predators. This explains why the noise disturbs them so much. The underwater disturbances can affect the way the mammals forage which effects their energy stores. With this knowledge they found out that large numbers of whales stranded due to military sonar activities. Click here to learn more.
