Fungus Spread to Marine Animals from Humans

This article talks about how a deadly fungus is killing marine mammals. This specific outbreak is due to the fungus Cryptococcus gattii, which lives in soil and tree dwellings. It can be acquired by creating in fungal spores and it can cause lung and brain disease. In 1999, humans, terrestrial animals became infected with this fungus. Researchers then found that multiple marine animals, who lived near terrestrial hotspots, also died from this fungus.
